Well, that’s another week gone by, in the blink of an eye. It was a decent week – I stuck to my new routine of working just my hours, instead of giving the company another 5-10 hours of my time for no reward. I found, again, that I was way more productive, and I ended the week with no e-mails in my inbox and just the spreadsheets to go through. Happy days!

I went to the gym a couple of times – I did Burn 1 on Tuesday, which felt really tough for some reason, and then had a fab PT session on Thursday. We were down in the new PT suite, which was really nice. I did deadlifts – 1 x 10 x 50kg and then 2 x 10 x 60kg. They felt good – that was the heaviest I’ve lifted since my recent cold. I then did a little mini super-set – 15 x TRX rows and 15 x bench press with 2 x 10kg dumbbells (heaviest I’ve done on those!). I did that 3 times and then it was time for walking lunges – 3 times up and back along the track, and then sled push with 32.5kg on – up and back twice, 3 times. And then some core work – 20 x leg raises and 20 x crunches, repeated twice. I really enjoyed.

So the fitness is going well, but I really need to sort my nutrition. I’m still eating crap and still drinking beer and wine, and so it doesn’t matter how much exercise I do, it’s all for nothing. I don’t know why I do it to myself, honestly!

Last night saw me make a rare visit to the theatre, to see 2:22 – A Ghost Story. I’d always quite fancied it, because I’m a sucker for a spooky tale, but when I saw it was written by Danny Robbins (of Uncanny podcast fame), I knew I had to go. And I’m really glad I did – it was excellent, with some really jumpy bits. And I’m saying no more than that. But if anyone is reading this and hasn’t seen it but has the chance – do go!

Well, here we are at Friday evening, after a fairly busy working week. I was working from home for most of the week, only going into the office on Wednesday, so I had a productive week and got plenty done. It’s always nice to finish the week with no e-mails remaining in my inbox!

We had some bad news in the office on Wednesday. Rachel has been diagnosed with breast cancer, for the second time in two years. I’m keeping everything crossed that she can receive treatment and that she’ll get through this. She’s only in her 30s and with two kids under the age of 10, the alternative doesn’t bear thinking about.

I’ve been to the gym a couple of times this week. On Monday I went and did about half of my usual workout before the sheer volume of people in there got to me and I skipped out of the door. Then after work today I went for a PT session, with my trainer, who is known affectionately in our house as Deadly Dave. Today we started on pull downs and I did 3 x sets at 35kg. Then it was over to the bench for my first ever attempt at Bulgarian split squats – 3 x 10 on each leg. They weren’t as bad as I’d feared, and I didn’t fall over, which was my biggest worry. Then it was over to the smith machine for bench presses. I warmed up by doing 15 x 10kg, then we went up to 12.5kg and I did 3 x 15 sets. Then it was time for step ups with the 40cm box, and an 8kg kettlebell. I did 3 sets of 10 on each leg there, too. And then I did a front plank for a minute (which felt absolutely fine) and then 30 seconds side plank on each side. And then it was time for my favourite word: Stretch… It was a good session. I felt strong, which is always nice. I’m looking forward to getting back to healthier eating next week, and working on both my physical fitness and my nutrition as I start the countdown to my summer holiday in Mallorca. 19 weeks to go…

Today has been a nice day. I was up just after 08:00 and had a slice of toast with parma ham and a poached egg for breakfast, before walking up to Tesco, because I’m all about the rock ‘n’ roll. Then home and a quick unpack of the shopping before taking Maisie up to Roborough Down for a quick walk. Maisie was a bit stiff at first, but perked up as we went along, although as it was raining we weren’t out for very long. I managed to find a geocache while we were out – a little bison sitting in a hawthorn tree. After getting home, Maisie had a shower, I changed my bedding and am now just chilling on the sofa and trying not to think of work tomorrow…

I’ve been thinking for a while of starting to write a kind of memoire, and this morning decided that I could do it by way of a blog. I have no idea whether anyone will ever want to read it, but I think it’ll be kind of fun to write. So this blog is going to be a mixture of current thoughts and happenings, interspersed with stories from my past. I’m still finding my way around the site, so this post is really just something to get me started and to play around with layout, etc.

For anyone who has happened upon my blog and is reading this – welcome! And feel free to leave a comment.
